Tethered oral tissues (TOTs), most commonly known as tongue ties, can include ties of the tongue, lip, and buccal tissues. A tie is diagnosed not only by visually assessing the nature of tissue itself, but by considering the signs and symptoms impacting one's feeding abilities. When the connective tissue (the frenulum) is thick, tight, restrictive AND feeding is impacted then a tie is considered.

Treatment
How do we treat TOTs? If it is determined that your child has TOTs we will provide you with the necessary information to present to your pediatrician. Your pediatrician can then make a referral to a specialist to discuss the procedure known as a frenectomy.
Why Treat?
If left untreated TOTs can negatively impact your child's oral motor/feeding skills, facial structure, breathing, sleeping, and possibly even their speech/language development. Treatment can significantly improve the outcomes of breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and solid food feeding.
